We weren't taught about vaginal arousal. You could be causing your low libido.

Girl, Pitch the Tent First. šŖ
Truth bomb: Your vagina needs a little time to get ready before you put anything inside it.
And no, Iām not talking about waiting until youāre āin the mood.ā Iām talking about an actual physical response that happens when your body gets properly aroused.
Most of us were never taught this.
We got the birds-and-the-bees version of sex ed: donāt get pregnant, donāt get an STI, use a condom.
But somehow nobody thought to mention how the female body actually prepares for penetration.
So letās talk about the tent. šŖ
Your Vagina Literally āPitches a Tentā
When your vagina is relaxed and not aroused, thereās only about three inches of internal space.
But as arousal builds, your body starts doing some pretty damn clever things.
The vagina lengthens and expands, creating more room internally. The upper portion expands and the cervix moves upward, creating whatās often described as vaginal tenting.
Think of it like your body saying:
āOkayyyyā¦NOW weāre ready.ā
And that matters.
Because if penetration happens before your body has had a chance to prepare, sex can feel uncomfortable, irritating, or justā¦meh.
And nobody wants to be lying there thinking:
āIs it over yet?ā
Soā¦How Long Does It Take?
Hereās where I want to ditch the stopwatch.
You may have heard the āseven-minute ruleāāthe idea that it takes roughly seven minutes for the tenting response to develop.
But your body isn't a microwave.
There isn't a magic timer that goes DING! and announces, āCongratulations! The vagina is ready.ā
Some people get there quickly.
Others need considerably more time.
And things like stress, hormonal changes, medications, postpartum changes, menopause, pelvic-floor tension, and simply not being sufficiently aroused can all affect how your body responds.
Translation?
Seven minutes might be enough for you. It might not.
The real rule is:
Don't rush the body you're trying to enjoy.
And This Is Why Foreplay Isn't āExtraā
Can we PLEASE stop treating foreplay like the appetizer nobody really needs?
Foreplay is the meal, people.
Your brain and your body are connected. Feeling safe, relaxed, excited, desired, and mentally turned on can all play a role in getting your body physically ready.
So take your damn time.
Kiss.
Touch.
Flirt.
Tease.
Make out like you're teenagers who aren't sure if anyone is watching.
Send the dirty-ish text earlier in the day.
Read something spicy.
Watch something that gets your imagination going.
Whatever works for you.
The goal isn't to race toward penetration.
The goal is to give your body a chance to say:
āOhhhhhh. NOW Iām interested.ā
And If You're Not Getting There Easily?
First: your body isn't broken.
Hormonal changes can absolutely affect arousal, vaginal tissue, lubrication, and sexual comfort. Stress can affect it. So can medications, relationship dynamics, exhaustion, and about 47 other things life likes to throw at us.
This is where a little lubrication or a stimulating product can be a very welcome assist.

And listenā¦
I am all about the weeknight sex hack.
Because sometimes you don't have 90 minutes, candles, Barry White, and a perfectly clean house.
Sometimes you've got 20 minutes, a half-empty glass of wine, laundry in the dryer, and someone asking where their other sock is.
Work with what you've got. š
Here's What I REALLY Want You to Remember
You don't have to force your body into being ready.
You don't have to grit your teeth and ājust get through it.ā
And you definitely don't have to assume that uncomfortable sex is just part of getting older.
Your body has a process.
Give it time.
Give it stimulation.
Give it lubrication when you need it.
And most importantly, pay attention to what feels good.
Because sex isn't supposed to be a race to penetration.
It's supposed to be an experience your WHOLE body gets to participate in.
So tonight?
Pitch the damn tent first. šŖ
Then decide what happens next.
Your vagina has been trying to tell you this for years.
We just weren't taught how to listen.
Remember...pleasure is your birthright
